we are hoping to build up comments from our visitors to give you an idea of their independent views on Le Haut Genet.
we are seeking constructive feedback as we want to continually improve the facilities at Le Haut Genet to give you an excellent holiday experience. We love France, and want you to enjoy it to!
from previous feedback and suggestions we have already installed kids safety gates on the stairs in the farmhouse and purchased more good quality pillows. In addition loaf tins and cake tins have been provided to enable you to bake your own cakes. Bliss! A new mattress has been bought.

LHG is a beautiful solid stone-built house and thoughtfully converted barn, with green space and clean air, for time-out in peace and tranquillity. Comfortable and homely with rustic charm and good modern facilities.
LHG is set in the unique French countryside with neat towns, villages and many well-kept places of interest to visit and explore by car or bike. The surrounding roads are great for a quiet stroll or bike ride and well-signed for travel further afield, though I liked Google maps until used to it!
You really can do your own thing for meals. Shop for French food and wines to cook, dine in or alfresco and relax at LHG or visit a restaurant for fine cuisine and local hospitality. Recommend Papillon at Gorron.

LHG is a breath of fresh air - both literally and metaphorically! My husband and I had both been dealing with health issues that left us feeling somewhat run down, but after a day or so of fresh country air, peace and quiet we felt rejuvenated and refreshed. The house is well equipped, whether you want to cook a three course meal, relax with a DVD or simply sit in the garden with a glass of wine and a good book. It's also an excellent base for excursions, if you are feeling energetic. On our recent visit we explored a medieval French village and its stunning church, visited a chateau newly opened to the public and drove through flower-bedecked villages to take a boat trip in Brittany. Highly recommended!

Le Haut Genet is a wonderful, quiet place to spend a week. Beautiful gardens and comfortable accommodation meant we had a really lovely time. The accommodation worked out perfectly for all of us. The ‘play’ barn, bikes and table tennis were a big hit with the whole family. Never seen stars so beautiful either – could see the tail of the Milky Way and even a couple of shooting stars one evening. A highlight for us all

Mick's notes - glad that you enjoyed LHG. Thank you for your suggestion to add a mirror and chest of drawers/wardrobe in the loft room. I shall get this sorted this autumn and then future guests can benefit.

A fantastic venue for two families with teenage children. The children were able to spend time together playing pool, table tennis, basketball, cycling and sports in the garden. There was plenty of space inside and out. The house is really well equipped with a wide range of DVDs to suit all tastes. Would recommend getting the ferry to Caen or St Malo as it seemed quite a long drive down from Calais after a fairly long journey to get to Dover.

We are enjoying the house and are already talking about coming back one day. It hasn't really been cycling weather but we have enjoyed the table tennis and games room, especially our teenagers.
Many thanks,

"Our week spent at Le Haut Genet was really a home from home. The spacious, quirky cottage and grounds provided everything imaginable for an enjoyable family holiday. It would have been quite easy to stay there all week but we decided to explore the local area. We visited the medieval towns of Domfront and Fougeres with their castles and churches; even our teenage children seemed to enjoy themselves. The Grand and Petite Cascades at Mortain provided a different day out, rounded off by a visit to the patisserie at Fougerolles du Plessis on our way back.
Mont St Michel is only an hour away and is also well worth a visit. There is building work around the entrance and walk way but it does not detract from the views. The worst part is the car park charge at 12 Euros, whereas everywhere else we visited was free!
Being the 70th Anniversary of D-Day this year, we decided to visit the Pegasus Bridge Memorial and museum at Ranville and drive along the beaches from Ouistreham to Arromanches. These beaches are about a 2 hour drive from the cottage but worth the journey."

Mick's comment - the walk around the waterfalls (cascades) is one of our favourites. I remember a donkey biting our daughters coat and ripping it. She hated the coat!

We had a wonderful time staying at LHG. The setting was just perfect for us. It was lovely to wake in the morning to the sound of birds rather than traffic. Night skies were stunning - we don't think we've ever seen so many stars. It was great to have so much space too. The children really enjoyed being able to ride the bikes round without having to worry about cars or bumping into other people. The barn, with the pool table and TV, and the garden games were also a big hit. From the kitchen to the bedrooms the house had everything we needed. And while it was remote it was never far to go to see something interesting - I think the Cascades at Mortain and the Foret de Fougeres were our favourites - or to get a bit of shopping. This was our first time in France as a family and it won't be our last. We would happily recommend LHG to anyone looking to explore this wonderful region of the country.

First impressions on arrival - large garden, restful and welcoming place, very pleasant. Comfortable, very well equipped, plenty of choice for places for eating (table and chairs in sejour, in stone barn and outside) and for playing (outside, in stone barn, in wood barn) and lots of good books and loads of DVDs. Lots of hot water for baths/showers, very nice power shower. Very homely.
We really liked - furniture, ceramic tiles and rugs, exposed beams and stone walls, the extra space in the stone barn which the kids loved to have as their territory a lot of the time, well-equipped kitchen and range, lots of choice of things to play with inside and outside, barbecue, and the space to spread out, plenty of windows so light and airy, quiet area, amazing stars at night. For a family with wide age range of children (age 9 - 18) it was ideal and good to have wifi/internet access too. We enjoyed our last night watching the olympic opening ceremony on the wide screen TV in the stone barn (two teens managed the whole thing, us oldies and the little one went to bed halfway through!)
It was obvious a tremendous amount of work and thought and had gone into making it a lovely place to stay; it has all the practical little things that make it into a home. All in all a lovely place to spend a holiday, and we would happily return given time and excuse.

Mick’s comment – glad you enjoyed it. Your suggestion regarding replacing one of the mattresses which was a bit lumpy will be acted upon very shortly!
